Hi there, my name is Andrew Reynolds and I'm a Cognitive Performance Coach

What’s that? I hear you ask.

I help golfers of all abilities to play better golf using the latest research in Sport Psychology, Neuroscience and Skill Acquisition. Rather than teach golfers how to achieve a perfect golf swing I teach golfers how to perform when it matters most, on the golf course.

I’ve played golf since my early teens, I have a Scratch handicap and still compete regularly. In my early 20’s I was working a corporate job for one of the biggest fund managers in the world. The prospects were great and there was a clear path in front of me, but it wasn’t for me. So I quit. I didn’t have a job to go to or a concrete plan to speak of but I knew it was the right decision.

I sold the few belongings I had and headed to South Africa to spend some time at the ‘Wanna Be a Champion’ Academy at Serengeti Golf Club.

Serengeti Golf Club (Beats the 6.02am train to Liverpool Street)

It’s an amazing place full of amazing people and it opened my eyes to what it takes to truly improve. Whilst there I was surrounded by Sunshine Tour players, European Tour players and much of the SA golf team (many of whom have gone on to big things). Being in the presence of such great players and coaches will make anyone a better golfer. Success leaves clues and all that.

I worked a lot on my own mental game before heading out to SA, and in such a high performance environment I had assumed that everybody would be highly skilled in this area. But they weren’t. Whilst I was surrounded by phenomenal golfers there was not much of a focus on the mental game at all. This surprised me. When I discussed the few things I knew at the time the responses amazed me, ‘this stuff really helps!’.

I returned to the UK and enrolled in a Psychology MSc, which I followed up with a Sport Psychology MSc. Armed with this information I began to coach golfers. Helping them to build habits and routines that are in line with how the human brain has evolved to function. It’s hard to shed the ‘lay on the couch and talk about your feelings’ image of sport psychology, but I aim to do this by sharing high quality, scientifically backed information designed to help golfers shoot lower scores.

As time passed by it became very clear that the part of my coaching that was having the biggest affect was focused on practice quality and practice structure. My coaching became more focused on creating practice environments that promote skill acquisition.

Over the next 5 years I built a strong stable of golfers in the South East of England. I still work with these players today and many are in the process of doing great things.

But then the pandemic hit and the world changed.

It affected many things, and one of those small downstream effects that wasn’t immediately obvious was the coaching landscape. I’ll admit I was always pretty skeptical about online coaching, but when every golf course in the country is closed you need to adapt and try new things.

So I reached out on Instagram (to my 200 followers) and offered online sessions. I got one taker. Little did they know but they were my first ever online coaching session (if they’re reading this I would imagine can work out who they are. If so, cheers mate).

It turns out that online coaching is very effective. In fact, I’ve found that many golfers prefer it. It’s convenient for one, but it provides a different service too. Rather than standing next to a golfer whilst they complete drills and games, I program them to complete before we next speak. This promotes habits. It allows golfers to take the information and make it their own.

The 3 years since that first 1-1 coaching session have been pretty mind blowing.

Alongside those 1-1 sessions I began to build Tailored Practice Plans and started the 8 Week Challenge. A program that provides weekly coaching modules and structured practice sessions to golfers looking to lower their handicap.

Both of which continue to be effective tools for golfers of all levels trying to improve their game

If you’re ready to start making the most of your practice time and build a game that holds up under pressure then I’d recommend starting with one of my free resources.

I write a free weekly newsletter focused on all things Sport Psychology and Golf Performance. Each week I share tips and insights that will help you play better golf. You can sign up here.

I’d also recommend taking a look at my Free Practice Guide.

If you’re interested in a Tailored Practice Plan or working with me 1-1 you can check out my coaching options here.
